  1. Hi Yani !

    A question :

Can I say - Dave can play nothing, instead of Dave can´t play any musical instrument.
    Thanks.

  2. Dear Silvia,

Nothing is used in affirmative sentences and any or anything are used in negative and interrogative sentences.

"Dave can play nothing" is grammatically correct but not very much used. If you use it, it will not be wrong.

Here are two examples for you to notice the difference in meaning:

“I don't know anything about it.” (= neutral, no emphasis) . "No sé nada". No hay emfasis.

“I know nothing about it.” (= more emphatic, maybe defensive)"No sé nada". Más a la defensiva.

Si aún hay dudas, you can consult me again. =)

    Love & Kisses,

    Yani
